Type species. Mutilla temporalis Gerstaecker, 1874 (female), by original designation.

Taxonomic history. Senior subjective synonym of Ancipitotilla Mickel, 1952 (male). Valid generic name.

Sex association. The male of the type species has not been recognized; the males were associated for other species and described (in a key to genera) by Quintero & Cambra, 1996a: 352.

Distribution. Neotropical.
