Gender. Feminine.

Type species. Areotilla areolata Bischoff, 1920 (male), by original designation.

Taxonomic history. Valid generic name. Sex association. The female of the type species has not been recognized; the presumed females of other species were associated by Brothers, 1975: 590 and described by Mitchell & Brothers, 1998: 194 .

Distribution. Afrotropical.
