Hoplomutilla Ashmead, 1899 . J. N. Y. Ent. Soc. 7: 57, 60. Female, male.
Gender. Feminine.
Type species. Mutilla spinosa Swederus, 1787 (female), by original designation (author of species incorrectly given as “Roed.”). The later designation of Mutilla cephalotes Swederus, 1787 (female) by Ashmead, 1904: 7 is invalid.
Taxonomic history. Senior objective synonym of Tilluma André, 1902 according to Mickel, 1928: 37. Valid generic name.
Sex association. The original sex association by Ashmead was erroneous since he had misidentified the type species; the supposed males of the type species according to Burmeister, 1854: 23 and Burmeister, 1875: 467 were also misidentified according to Mickel, 1939b: 393, 394; the true male of the type species was associated and identified (as Hoplomutilla dispar Mickel, 1939b: 395 ) by Quintero & Cambra, 2001b: 300.
Distribution. Neotropical.
