Type species. Mutilla leucopyga Klug, 1829 (female), by original designation.
Taxonomic history. Junior subjective synonym of Trogaspidia Ashmead, 1899 according to Bradley &
Bequaert, 1923: 229. Resurrected to subgeneric status (in Trogaspidia Ashmead, 1899 ) by Hammer, 1955: 400. Junior subjective synonym of Timulla Ashmead, 1899 according to Brothers, 1975: 592 . Resurrected to generic status by Nonveiller, 1975: 174, 1980a: 67. Valid generic name.
Sex association. The male of the type species was associated and identified (as Mutilla opaca Lepeletier, 1845: 624 ) by André, 1902: 22; its identity was clarified and it was redescribed by Nonveiller, 1999: 269.
Distribution. Afrotropical, Palaearctic.
