Treatment

Physetapsis Schuster, 1958 (as subgenus of Sphaeropthalma Blake, 1871 ). Ent. Amer. (N.S.) 37: 9, 20 (in keys). Male.

Gender. Masculine (Article 30.2.4 of the Code).

Type species. Sphaeropthalma (Physetapsis) papaga Schuster, 1958 (male), by original designation.

Taxonomic history. Junior subjective synonym of Sphaeropthalma Blake, 1871 according to Pitts et al., 2004: 224. Subjectively invalid name.

Sex association. The female has not been recognized.

Distribution. Nearctic.
