Gender. Feminine.
Type species. Mutilla quinquefasciata Olivier, 1811 (female), by monotypy.
Taxonomic history. Raised to generic status by André, 1902c: 24. Valid generic name.
Sex association. The presumed male of the type species was associated and described by Bischoff & Nonveiller, 1965: 23.
Distribution. Palaearctic.
