Gender. Feminine.
Type species. Mutilla distincta Lepeletier, 1845 (female), by subsequent designation of Ashmead, 1903: 324 (junior subjective synonym of Mutilla calva Villers, 1789 (female), according to Morawitz, 1865: 121).
Taxonomic history. Raised to generic status by Ashmead, 1899: 54. Reduced to subgeneric status (in Mutilla Linnaeus, 1758 ) by André, 1901a: 176. Reinstated to generic status by André, 1902c: 24. Senior subjective synonym of Rudia Costa, 1858 . Valid generic name.
Sex association. The male of the type species was associated and identified (as Mutilla incompleta Lepeletier, 1845: 609 ) by Wesmael, 1851: 373.
Distribution. Palaearctic, Oriental, Afrotropical.
