Odontomutilla Ashmead, 1899 . J. N. Y. Ent. Soc. 7: 55, 58. Male, female.

Gender. Feminine.

Type species. Odontomutilla abbottii Ashmead, 1899 (male, female; syntypes), by original designation (junior synonym of Mutilla saussurei Sichel & Radoszkowski, 1869 (male), according to André, 1901b: 329. (“ O. abbottii Ashm. ms.” (female) and “ O. abbotti Ashm. ” (male) were cited as types by Ashmead, 1899: 55, 58 in his key; the species was validated by indication (combined description of new genus and single new species, Article 12.2.6 of the Code), the different spellings obviously being a lapsus calami . André, 1901b: 329, established the synonymy on the basis of examination of Ashmead’s male specimen only (although he misspelled the name as “ abottii”, an error perpetuated by Bischoff, 1920: 245). Mickel, 1928: 35 was apparently the first to choose one of the original spellings ( abbottii ) which is therefore that adopted here.)

Taxonomic history. Reduced to subgeneric status by André, 1901b: 329. Reinstated to generic status by André, 1902c: 28. Senior subjective synonym of Peringueya Ashmead, 1903 and Radoszkowskius Ashmead, 1903 . Valid generic name.

Sex association. The type species was described from both sexes by Ashmead, 1899: 55, 58; the association may be incorrect (study of the syntypes is required), although the female is certainly congeneric with the male; André, 1901a: 329 described the female for the subgenus.

Distribution. Afrotropical, Oriental, Palaearctic, Australian.
