Gender. Feminine.
Type species. Mutilla triguttata Lelej & Brothers , nomen novum (female), by original designation (replacement name for Mutilla africana André, 1895 not Gistel, 1848).
Taxonomic history. Reduced to subgeneric status (in Smicromyrme Thomson, 1870 ) by Bradley & Bequaert, 1923: 229. Reinstated to generic status by Invrea, 1936: 122. Reduced to subgeneric status (in Trogaspidia Ashmead, 1899 ) by Hammer, 1957: 236. Reinstated to generic status by Suárez, 1969: 114. Valid generic name.
Sex association. The male of the type species was associated and described by Bischoff, 1920: 297; the association was confirmed by Nonveiller, 1973a: 100.
Distribution. Afrotropical, Oriental.
