Gender. Feminine.
Type species. Mutilla dunbrodia Péringuey, 1899 (female), by original designation (misspelled as dumbrodia).
Taxonomic history. Reduced to subgeneric status (in Smicromyrme Thomson, 1870 ) by Bradley & Bequaert, 1923: 229. Reinstated to generic status by Arnold, 1962: 848. Valid generic name.
Sex association. The male of the type species has not been recognized; the presumed males of other species were associated and described (as apterous) by Ashmead, 1903: 324 and associated (on the basis of a pair collected in copula, the male winged) but not described by Brothers, 1975: 592 .
Distribution. Afrotropical.
