Radoszkowskius Ashmead, 1903 . Canad. Ent. 35: 327, 328. Female, male.
Gender. Masculine.
Type species. Mutilla simplicifascia Sichel & Radoszkowski, 1869 (female, male; lectotype female) by original designation (junior subjective synonym of Mutilla merops Smith, 1860 (female, male; lectotype female) according to Lelej, 2005: 84; synonymy incorrect, see below). There have been two “designations” of lectotype for M. simplicifascia , by Mickel (1935a: 204) and Lelej (1996c: 92). Mickel’s attribution of “ holotype ” to the female and “ allotype ” to the male cannot be considered a valid lectotype designation (Article 74.5 of the Code), so Lelej effectively first designated the female as lectotype. Unfortunately, neither author examined either of the two syntypes (specified as one of each sex in the Sichel collection). DJB examined a female specimen with appropriate data in the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle, Paris, in 1981 and concluded that it was the female syntype. This must therefore be the specimen designated as the lectotype by Lelej. It agrees very well with the original description ( Sichel & Radoszkowski, 1869: 154, pl. VII fig. 3; 1870: 192–3), although less well with the figure (many of the figures in this work show errors, as already noted by André, 1904a: 39). The specimen (see fig. 2 View FIGURES 1–2 ) is clearly a member of the genus Odontomutilla Ashmead, 1899 (indicated by Petersen, label data, as a subspecies of Mutilla familiaris Smith, 1857 ); Lelej’s 2005 synonymy is thus incorrect. (A red lectotype label has been added: “ LECTOTYPE / Mutilla simplicifascia / Sichel & Radoszkowski, / 1869 ♀ A.S. Lelej, 1996”.)
Taxonomic history. Junior subjective synonym of Odontomutilla Ashmead, 1899 according to André, 1904a: 36; confirmed here. Subjectively invalid name. (A new name is required for the genus recognized by Lelej 1996c: 92; 2005: 82 as Radoszkowskius ; Wallacidia is proposed below.)
Sex association. The type species was described from both sexes by Sichel & Radoszkowski, 1869: 154, 158 and 1870: 192–3.
Distribution. Oriental.
