Gender. Feminine.

Type species. Rudia megacephala Costa, 1858 (male, female; syntypes), by subsequent designation of Bischoff, 1920: 54 (junior subjective synonym of Mutilla erythrocephala Latreille, 1792 (female), according to André, 1903: 445). (Although the original spelling is erithrocephala ( Latreille, 1792: 8), the subsequent spelling as erythrocephala is in prevailing usage and is deemed to be correct according to Article 33.3.1 of the Code.)

Taxonomic history. Reduced to subgeneric status (in Mutilla Linnaeus, 1758 ) by Dalla Torre, 1897: 5. Junior subjective synonym of Myrmilla Wesmael, 1851 according to André, 1902c: 24. Resurrected to generic status by Nagy, 1972: 163. Junior subjective synonym of Myrmilla Wesmael, 1851 accord-

ing to Brothers, 1975: 591 . Subjectively invalid name.

Sex association. The type species was described from both sexes by Costa , 1858: 8.
