Type species. Scaptopoda pusilla Lynch Arribálzaga, 1878 (female), by original designation.
Taxonomic history. Reduced to subgeneric status (in Mutilla Linnaeus, 1758 ) by Dalla Torre, 1897: 5. Questionably junior subjective synonym of Ephuta Say, 1836 according to André, 1902c: 51. Regarded as a nomen dubium by Quintero & Cambra, 2001b: 292. Subjectively invalid name.
Sex association. The male has not been recognized.
Distribution. Neotropical.
