Comments: Commonly found in oligotrophic ponds and small lakes that are slightly acidic to slightly alkaline; also occurs in rice fields but rarely encountered in the plankton or eutrophic waters Croasdale & Flint (1988). Rated as meso-eutrophic by Coesel & Meesters (2007) and common in various slightly acidic to slightly alkaline waters.

Distribution: Cosmopolitan.
