Diagnosis, adult
This species may be separated from its congeners by the following diagnostic combination: frons with short, deep furrows along inner margins of eyes; elytral disc yellow, with infuscated apex.
Description, adult
Characters of Physiomorphus , with the following specific features: Body slightly elongate (TL/GEW 2.75-2.93), somewhat ovate. Head moderately wide (GHW/HL 1.00-1.11). Scape relatively elongate, parallel-sided; antennomere 2 short, moniliform, about half length of scape; antennomere 3 sub fi liform; antennomeres 4-10 moniliform; antennomere 11 relatively short, narrowed at about midlength, without cleft; last maxillary palpomere distinctly securiform. Pronotum moderately to distinctly wide (GPW/PL 1.35-1.50), distinctly wider than head (GPW/GHW 1.14-1.28); lateral margins of pronotal disc straight to slightly sinuate to midlength, then evenly and slightly arcuate to anterior margin; discal depressions deep, circular and well de fi ned; punctation deep and coarse, non-umbilicate; setation sparse, uniform. Elytra slightly convex, with suggestions of multiple, longitudinal costae; vestiture sparse, not obscuring coarse, somewhat irregular punctation; apical binding patch conspicuous or inconspicuous dorsally, depending on extent of apical elytral infuscation. Abdomen. Sexual setae and male genitalia not examined. Colour. Head, including antennae and maxillary palpi, black except for frons and labrum, rufous; prothorax uniformly rufotestaceous; elytra rufotestaceous except for apical infuscated area (humeri infuscated in one specimen; legs rufotestaceous except for tarsi, piceous.
Diagnosis, mature larva
Length: 13.1 mm, width: 2.2 mm. Abdomen. Urogomphal plate (figure 15) with scattered setae mainly on margins; constricted at urogomphal bases; a dorsal pair of short setae on median region; anterior angles rounded and strongly produced; posterior margin strongly concave, a pair of rounded pits on median region; urogomphi about 1.5✕ as long as median region of urogomphal plate, bearing some marginal setae, apices slightly upturned and convergent.
