Shrub 2-8 m tall. Leaves 8-11-jugate, up to at least 1 m long, crowded at the top of the branches; leaflets ovate to oblong-lanceolate, (6-) 12-25(-30) × (3-) 5-7 cm, with obtuse to subcordate base and long-acuminate apex; lateral nerves c. (10-)14-20 pairs. Inflorescence on the basal part of the trunk. Flowers (Feb.) red. Fruits (July) ± ellipsoid, 2.5-2.8 × 1.5-1.7 cm, glabrous. — Figs 2E View FIG ; 13. View FIG

HABITAT AND DISTRIBUTION. — Montane forest in eastern Congo (Kinshasa). Alt. 800- 1200 m.
