After dehydration in an increasing ethanol gradient, the pollen grains were mounted on aluminium stubs, covered with goldpalladium with an ion sputter coater JEOL JFC-1100 (1200 V, 6 mA, 10 minutes) and observed with a Hitachi SU-70 scanning electron microscope operating at 4 kV. Twenty measurements of the diameter of the spine and inter-spines perforations were taken.
