order CYPRINODONTIFORMES View in CoL View at ENA family “ Rivulidae ”
The stem Rivul- is preoccupied in names of the family group by the tribus Rivulini Grote, 1895 based on Rivula , a genus of moths. As Rivulidae , -inae, and -ini are not longer applicable for fishes, Costa (2016) proposed to include all species of Rivulidae in Aplocheilidae and all Rivulinae in Cynolebiinae. Not only that no solution was proposed how to treat the fish tribe Rivulini , also the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature in clause 55.3.1 requires that a homonymy in the family group based on the same stem of the name giving genera (as the case in Rivul-a and Rivul-us) must be presented to and can only be solved by the Comission. For the afore mentioned technical and formal reasons we prefer to continue using the conventional family group names until the Comission has been approached and has ruled.
