Protarchanara Beck, 1999 View in CoL , Herbipoliana 5/1: 554. Type-species: Nonagria brevilinea Fenn, 1864 .
The systematic position of the genus was stated by Zilli et al. (2005). This taxon is a separate lineage close to Photedes, Globia View in CoL and Apamea View in CoL and can be characterised by weakly sclerotised ovipositor in females, long and thin costal process forming almost right angle with costa and located outside the plane of valva and smooth clavus in males. The genus includes three described taxa, P. abrupta (Eversmann, 1854) , P. brevilinea brevilinea (Fenn, 1864) and P. brevilinea impudica (Staudinger, 1892) stat. n. distributed in Eurasia. A third species is described below.
