Eugenia kuhlmanniana Mattos & D. Legrand, Loefgrenia 67: 30. 1975. Type:— BRAZIL. Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, presumedly Rio de Janeiro Botanical Gardens, 07 March 1949, J. G. Kuhlmann s.n. RB 83920 (holotype RB!, isotype MVM). Syn. nov.

Notes:—The marginal vein of the leaves of Eugenia hiraeifolia is not evident. The lower surface of the leaves is very densely sericeous with adpressed and dibrachiate trichomes, providing a golden or silvery aspect to the lower surface. The cymose inflorescences are also densely pubescent, with deciduous flower bracts and bracteoles. For a complete morphological description, see Barrie (2009: 177) and McVaugh (1963: 457, under Eugenia salamensis var. hiraeifolia ).

Distribution:— Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama; in deciduous tropical forest and tropical dry-moist forest transition, from 80– 900 m.
