FAMILY CROCODYLIDAE Cuvier 1807 , 64
(1 genus, 1 species). Solís et al. (2014) used Owen (1842) as the author of this family name, but Owen (1842, 65) used Crocodilia as an order name, as had Cuvier. I continue to credit Cuvier for the crocodile family name following Brochu (2003, 360), but note that the author of this name has not been resolved.
Crocodylus Laurenti 1768 , 53 (1 species)
Crocodylus acutus (Cuvier 1807, 55). Milián-García et al. (2011) using genetic data, recovered evidence that more than one species was involved under the nominal form C. acutus . There are names available if it should be shown that the Central American populations are not the same species as C. acutus ( type locality on Hispaniola).
