Diagnosis: species of this section differ from species of sect. Aureoboletus mainly by the ornamented spores (longitudinally ribbed basidiospores). The new section is supported by its separate position in previous phylogenetic analysis (see Wu et al. 2016, Zhang M. et al. 2019, Zeng et al. 2015)

Additional species in the subgenus are: A. singeri (Gonz.-Velázq. & R. Valenz.) Har. Takah. & Taneyama View in CoL and A. viscosus (C.S. Bi & Loh) G. Wu & Zhu L. Yang View in CoL (the latter already suspected to be a synonym of A. longicollis View in CoL ) (Zhang M. et al. 2019). Note: A. russellii (Frost) G. Wu & Zhu L. Yang View in CoL could be assigned to the subgenus Magnisporiboletus in relation to the gross morphology, but also because of the large spores.
