Symplana lii Chen, Zhang & Chang, 2014: 170 View in CoL ; Zhang et al., 2020: 150.
Descriptions. Measurements. Body length including forewing: male 9.4–10.2 mm (N = 5), female 9.9–11.2 mm (N = 4); forewing length: male 7.9–8.6 mm mm (N = 5), female 8.2–9.8 (N = 4).
Coloration. Male: Body grass green. Head protrusion and vertex pale green, lateral margins green. Eyes brown with somewhat green, ocelli orange red. Spines of legs with black apices. Forewing hyaline, veins green. Female: Body mainly greenish yellow. Eyes brown, ocelli orange red. Pronotum and mesonotum yellow. Spines of legs with black apices. Forewing hyaline, veins green.
Head and thorax. Head with eyes narrower than pronotum. Vertex including head protrusion with length in middle line 5.1 times than width at base. Vertex with length in middle line 1.7 times than width at base. Middle length of head protrusion longer than middle length of vertex (1.4:1). Head protrusion broad at base, narrowing at apex. Frons broad at base, narrowing at apex, slightly raised in the middle, frons including head protrusion with length in middle line 4.6 times than width at base, median carina obvious, connecting with the median carina of clypeus, sublateral carinae not reaching frontoclypeal suture. Pronotum shorter than vertex (0.47:1), anterior margin roundly convex strongly, posterior margin broadly concave. Mesonotum with length 3 times as long as pronotum. Forewing longer in middle line than broad at widest part (6.5:1); veins visible, with nodal line, R and MP with common stem; after nodal line, R single, MP with eight branches, CuA with two branches, Pcu uniting A1 at basal 2/5 of clavus. Hindwing with length 2.6 times as long as broad at widest part, ScP, MP and CuA with two branches, RP single. Spinal formula of hind leg 6-0-0.
Male genitalia. Anal segment in dorsal view with length 1.35 times longer in middle line than widest part, apical margin roundly convex; anal pore located at apex; in lateral view dorsal margin slightly convex, ventral margin straight. Pygofer in lateral view with dorsal margin distinct shorter than ventral margin, posterior margin sinuated; in ventral view, posterior margin sinuated. Genital style in lateral view rather long and narrow, dorsal margin sinuated, apical margin rounded; in ventral view with middle part widest, narrowing apex. Aedeagus tubular, in lateral view ventrally curved at 1/3, narrowing apex; in dorsal view sharp apex. Connective fused with base of aedeagus.
Female genitalia. Anal segment in dorsal view with length 1.2 times longer in middle line than widest part, broadening apically, apical margin slightly convex; anal pore located at apex; in lateral view small, the base half narrow, broadening apically.Abdominal sternite VII in ventral view with width 1.3 times as long as length, posterior margin roundly concave in the middle, behind the posterior margin with a triangular ossification flake. Gonapophysis VIII elongate, with eight spines at apical margin. Gonapophysis IX with two symmetrical lobes, each lobe nearly rectangle with many spines at dorsal margin, ventral margin broadly concave. Gonoplac with outer surface shagreen; in lateral view broad, nearly triangle, apical margin rounded.
Host plant. Bamboo.
Distribution. Southwestern China (Yunnan Province).
Material examined. 12♂♂ 15♀♀, China: Yunnan Province, Menglun County, Mengla Town , 2017-VII-21, Nian Gong and Qiang Luo ; 8♂♂ 13♀♀, China: Yunnan Province, Jinghong City, Wensha Hot Springs , 2019-VI-18, Hong-Xing Li, Nian Gong, Feng-E Li and Shi-Yan Xu .
Remarks. S. lii Chen, Zhang & Chang, 2014 is similar to S. longicephala Chou, Yuan & Wang, 1994 , but differs in: 1) forewing of M with eight branches after nodal line (with seven branches after nodal line in S. longicephala ); 2) genital style in lateral view rather long and narrow (rather broad in S. longicephala ); 3) aedeagus in lateral view with ventral margin not serrated (ventral margin serrated in the middle in S. longicephala ).
