Symplana longicephala Chou, Yuan & Wang, 1994 View in CoL
( Figures 83 View FIGURE 83 , 84A, B View FIGURE 84 )
Symplana longicephala Chou, Yuan & Wang, 1994: 47 View in CoL ; Chen, Zhang & Chang, 2014: 173; Zhang et al., 2020: 149.
Descriptions. Measurements. Body length including forewing: male 10.9 mm (N = 1); forewing length: male 8.6 mm (N = 1).
Coloration (in alcohol). Body yellow. Lateral margins of vertex and frons yellowish green. Eyes brown with somewhat red, ocelli orange red. Head protrusion with a brown ring. Spines of legs with black apices. Forewing hyaline, veins yellow.
Head and thorax. Vertex including head protrusion with length in middle line 4.8 times than width at base. Vertex with length in middle line 1.36 times than width at base. Middle length of head protrusion longer than middle length of vertex (2.4:1). Head protrusion broad at base, narrowing at apex. Frons broad at base, narrowing at apex, slightly raised in the middle, frons including head protrusion with length in middle line 4.8 times than width at base, median carina obvious, connecting with the median carina of clypeus, sublateral carinae not reaching frontoclypeal suture. Rostrum reaching posterior trochanters. Pronotum shorter than vertex (0.7:1), anterior margin roundly convex strongly, posterior margin broadly concave. Mesonotum with length 3.1 times as long as pronotum. Forewing longer in middle line than broad at widest part (6.4:1); veins visible, with nodal line, R and MP with common stem; after nodal line, R single, MP with seven branches, CuA with three branches, Pcu uniting A1 at basal 1/2 of clavus. Hindwing with length 2.7 times as long as broad at widest part, ScP, MP and CuA with two branches, RP single. Spinal formula of hind leg 6-0-0.
Male genitalia. Anal segment rather short and small, anal pore near apex. Pygofer in lateral view with dorsal margin distinct shorter than ventral margin, posterior margin sinuated. Genital style in lateral view large and broad, middle area nearly rectangle, dorsal margin roundly convex in the middle, ventral margin slightly convex, a small finger-like process arising from dorsal margin proximal. Aedeagus tubular, slender and long, tapering apically, in lateral view, strongly curved to the basement, ventral margin serrated in the middle. Connective fused with base of aedeagus, in lateral view straight, acute angle ventrally curved in the middle.
Host plant. Bamboo ( Figure 84C View FIGURE 84 ).
Distribution. Southwestern China (Yunnan Province).
Material examined. 1♂, China: Yunnan Province, Mengla County, Menglun Town , 2017-VII-6, Nian Gong .
Remarks. S. longicephala Chou, Yuan & Wang, 1994 is similar to S. brevistrata Chou, Yuan & Wang, 1994 , but differs in: 1) forewing of M with seven branches after nodal line (with five branches after nodal line in S. brevistrata ); 2) genital style in lateral view rather broad (rather long and narrow in S. brevistrata ); 3) aedeagus in lateral view with ventral margin serrated in the middle (ventral margin not serrated in the middle in S. brevistrata ).
Note. The above description is derived from Chou, Yuan & Wang, 1994, for the first time in English.
