Asiosilis waterstradti ( Pic, 1910)

(Figs. 3A, 5G, 8A, 11B)

Silis waterstradti Pic, 1910: 413 .

Asiosilis waterstradti : Wittmer, 1978: 340.

FIGRUE 3. Male habitus of Asiosilis spp. A , A. waterstradti ( Pic, 1910) ; B, A. quopensis Wittmer, 1978 ; C, A. sapulutensis sp. nov. ( holotype); D, A. kinabaluensis sp. nov. ( holotype); E, A. takizawai sp. nov. ( holotype). Scale bar: 5.0 mm.

Material examined. 1 ♂, Poring Park , Ranau, Sabah, Malaysia, 21–22. I. 2008, H. Takizawa leg. ; 2 ♂♂, Malungung , Kg. Ticolod, Tambunan, Sabah, Malaysia, 12–14. III. 2010, H. Takizawa leg. ; 1 ♂, Mahua Waterfall , Crocker R. P., Tambunan, Sabah, Malaysia, 23. III. 2012, H. Takizawa leg.

Redescription.Male. Body almost pale orange-yellow; third to sixth antennomeres brown; seventh antennomere, metathorax, second to seventh sternite except lateral margins slightly infuscate; apical two-thirds of mandible and eighth sternite dark testaceous.

Eyes rather particularly prominent; interocular distance 2.41–2.83 times the eye width. Antenna reaching near the basal half portion of the elytra. Third to seventh antennomeres entirely and basal half of eighth antennomere having rows of granules; ninth and subsequent antennomeres typical (Fig. 5G). Comparative ratios of the lengths of the antennomeres as follows: 2.9: 1.0: 1.9: 1.9: 1.9: 1.9: 1.9: 1.9: 1.9: 1.8: 2.4.

Pronotum wider than the head, with its width distinctly greater than its length; frontal margin curved outward, basal margin slightly curved inward; lateral incision tapering abruptly toward anteriorly; lateral lobe rather broad and its posterior margin nearly straight (Fig. 8A). Fore-claw with cleft outer claw and simple inner claw; both claws of the mid- and hind-claws simple. Elytra rather slender, slightly wider than the pronotum.

Aedeagus rather elongated. Dorsal side of paramere extend posteriorly compared to ventral side; posterior margin slightly emarginate at the center. Ventral side of paramere moderately protruding ventrally. Ventral protrusion with central part slightly concaved in ventral view; ventral margin nearly straight in posterior view. Laterophyse stout and long (Fig. 11B).

Dimension ratios. n=4: PW /HW 1.14–1.20, PW / PL 1.44–1.57; EW/ PW 1.01–1.07; EL/EW 2.76–3.01.

Body length: 7.1‒8.3 mm; width: 1.8‒2.1 mm.

Distribution: Malaysia (Borneo: Sabah, Banggi Is.).

Differential diagnosis. This species is closely related to Asiosilis polingensis Wittmer, 1985 and A. babagonensis sp. nov. However, it can be distinguished from these two species using the following criteria: third to sixth antennomeres brown; seventh antennomere infuscate; ventral protrusion of paramere extremely slightly concaved in ventral view and its ventral margin nearly straight in posterior view.
