Psorodonotus soganli View in CoL Ünal, 2013
Psorodonotus giresun Kaya et Çıplak, 2014 View in CoL syn. nov.
Remarks. Psorodonotus giresun was described by Kaya and Çıplak (in Kaya et al. 2014). Morphologically, it is nearly impossible to differentiate it from P. soganli (Ünal, 2013). The authors studied three populations of P. soganli and one population of P. giresun , all of which are situated quite close to each other. However, the populations most similar to Tamdere, the type locality of P. giresun , are Ovit and Cimil in Rize Province, which are farther from the type locality of P. soganli (Soğanlı) . This geographical distance, along with the morphological similarities, presents a contradiction. All the locations are continuously connected at similar elevations along the same mountain ridge, the northeastern Anatolian Mountains. The shapes of the cerci, titillators, subgenital plates, ovipositors, and pronotum do not effectively distinguish any of the populations. Some variations are naturally expected in all species. It is unlikely that two species within this genus would have identical morphology and occupy such closely situated type localities on the same mountain ridge. Therefore, it seems clear that the “minor”, irregular differences between these populations are merely variations within a single species.
