Cantharus (Pollia) augustae (Boettger, 1901 [sic])— Atanacković 1985: 150, pl. 33, figs. 17–18.

Type material. Lectotype designated by Zilch (1934: 254), SMF 366524 (=12-2240a), Senckenberg Museum, Frankfurt/Main, Germany, SL: 6.6 mm, MD: 3.3 mm, CoŞteiu de Sus ( Romania), illustrated in Zilch (1934: pl. 16, fig. 93), figs. 30A 1 –A 3.

Revised description. Small, slender fusiform shell; apical angle 50°. Protoconch broad conical of 2.75 smooth, convex whorls. Teleoconch of up to five whorls. Suture weakly incised. Early teleoconch whorls with steep, weakly concave subsutural ramp and shoulder placed short distance above suture. Axial sculpture of ten narrow ribs. Spiral sculpture of two prominent cords (SP, P1 stronger), forming rounded tubercles at intersections with ribs; interspaces deep, cancellate. P2 appearing at abapical suture on third teleoconch whorl. Simultaneously, weak s1, s2 with one delicate abapical tertiary cord appear. Last whorl attaining 63% of total height, with rounded shoulder. Eight prominent ribs; terminal varix most prominent, slightly flaring. SP, P1–P4 forming broad, prominent cords, overrun by about three delicate tertiary threads. abis, IP, s1, s2, s3 and tertiary threads very weak to subobsolete. P5 weak on siphonal canal. Growth lines weakly scabrose close to terminal varix. Rounded tubercles formed at intersections where primary cords overrun axial ribs. Fasciole weakly swollen. Aperture narrow, ovate. Outer lip thickened, with prominent, rounded D1–D4; D1 strongest, ID subobsolete. Anal canal distinctly incised, broadly U-shaped, accentuated by broad parietal denticle. Siphonal canal moderately short, narrow, straight, deeply notched. Columella straight with three columellar denticles, columellar callus forming narrow, adherent rim.

Discussion. Slender specimens of the extant Claremontiella nodulosa (C. B. Adams, 1845) are reminiscent of Claremontiella augustae ( Boettger, 1902) but differ in their larger size.

Paleoenvironment. Shallow marine, inner neritic.

Distribution in Central Paratethys. Badenian (Middle Miocene): Southern Pannonian Basin: Hrvaćani ( Bosnia and Herzegovina) ( Atanacković 1985); Făget Basin: Lăpugiu de Sus, CoŞteiu de Sus, ( Romania) ( Boettger 1906).
