Type material. Lectotype (designated by Zilch 1934: 252): SFM 36326 (=12-2259a), SL: 13.7 mm, MD: 8.2 mm, CoŞteiu de Sus ( Romania), illustrated in Zilch (1934: pl. 15, fig. 80), Figs. 19A View FIGURE 19 1 –A View FIGURE 1 3 View FIGURE 3 .

Revised description. Medium-sized, biconic shell; apical angle 51°. Protoconch conical of three smooth whorls; small, bulbous protoconch I; protoconch II of moderately convex whorls. Teleoconch of up to 4.5 whorls. Early teleoconch whorls shouldered with convex subsutural ramp; suture deeply incised. Axial sculpture of moderately prominent varices (seven on spire whorls, six on last whorl). P1 forming long, adaxially curved spines on shoulder varices, P2 with shorter spines, cords subobsolete between varices. Last whorl attaining 68% of total height, shouldered, conical below. Spiral sculpture strongly reduced between foliose varices; IP, P1–P5 with tertiary threads developed on either side of secondary cords s1–s6; ADP, MP and ABP of same strength as adapical secondary cords (s5, s6). Aperture subtrigonal with flat adapical portion. Outer lip strongly thickened by foliose terminal varix, with shallow shoulder canal running to P1; prominent D1–D5 placed just behind peristome. Anal canal indistinct. Siphonal canal of medium length, open, straight, narrow, dorsally recurved, deeply notched. Columella moderately excavated in adapical half, bearing three denticles on abapical half, weakening adapically; abapical denticle marking slightly angled transition to siphonal canal. Columellar callus forming broad, erect rim.

Discussion. This species is known so far only from its holotype. Pazinotus attonans ( Boettger, 1906) is characterized by its small size and foliose varices. Pazinotus hamulifer ( Boettger, 1906) is comparable in size but differs in its lower spire whorls, more constricted base, and stronger secondary sculpture.

Paleoenvironment. Unknown.

Distribution in Central Paratethys. Badenian (Middle Miocene): Făget Basin: CoŞteiu de Sus ( Romania) ( Boettger 1906).
