Revised description. Medium-sized, stout biconic shell; apical angle~55–65°.Protoconch unknown.Teleoconch of up to five whorls. Suture weakly incised, shallowly undulating. Early teleoconch whorls weakly convex, faintly shouldered with weakly concave subsutural ramp. Axial sculpture of nine broad, close-set axial ribs overrun by adis, IP, abis, P1, s1, P2, s2, P3 and s3 of subequal strength on antepenultimate and penultimate whorls. Last whorl attaining ~70–73% of total height; globose with weakly concave subsutural ramp, rounded periphery, strongly constricted below. Nine to 11 broad, weak, widely spaced, prosocline axial ribs most prominent along periphery, fading on subsutural ramp and base. Regular pattern of primary (adis, IP, abis, P1–P6, ADP, MP, ABP, EAB1) and secondary cords (s1–s6, ads, ms, abs) of subequal strength; abis and P1 slightly more prominent. Fasciole strongly swollen, twisted, delimiting narrow pseudoumbilicus. Aperture large, wide, ovate; outer lip weakly thickened; weak ID; D1–D6, starting close behind peristome, forming narrow, short lirae, reaching far into aperture. Anal canal wide, poorly delimited; siphonal canal short, moderately wide, open, slightly bent to the left, dorsally recurved. Columella broadly excavated, with faint denticle close to siphonal canal, angled at transition to siphonal canal. Columellar callus forming broad rim, sharply delimited, weakly erect at siphonal canal, adherent in parietal area.
Discussion. Attiliosa recognita ( Bałuk, 2006) is strikingly similar to the extant Attiliosa bozzettii Houart, 1993 from the Indian Ocean, which has a higher spire and slightly coarser spiral cords. Attiliosa nassatella ( Grateloup, 1845) , from the northeastern Atlantic Early Miocene of the Aquitaine Basin is similar but differs from the Paratethyan species mainly in the longer siphonal canal and more constricted base (see Lozouet 2023: pl. 6, figs. 10–15). Attiliosa pouweri Landau, Merle, Ceulemans & Van Dingenen, 2019 , from the Upper Miocene of NW France, differs in having a more elongate shell, with a higher spire and longer siphonal canal, and columellar denticles are always present.
Paleoenvironment. Shallow marine, inner neritic.
Distribution in Central Paratethys. Badenian (Middle Miocene): Vienna Basin: Niederleis, Vienna / Pötzleinsdorf ( Austria) (Hoernes & Auinger 1885); Eisenstadt-Sopron Basin: Forchtenau ( Austria) (Hoernes & Auinger 1885); Făget Basin: CoŞteiu de Sus ( Romania) ( Kovács 2019); Pannonian Basin: Letkés ( Hungary) ( Kovács et al. 2018); Dacian Basin: Târnene ( Bulgaria) (Kojumdgieva in Kojumdgieva & Strachimirov 1960).
Genus Dermomurex Monterosato, 1890
Type species. Murex scalarinus Bivona e Bernardi, 1832 View in CoL ; original designation by Monterosato (1890: 181). Present-day, Mediterranean Sea.
Discussion. We recognize two species in the subgenus Dermomurex and one in the subgenus Trialatella : Dermomurex (s.s.) rutogus ( De Gregorio, 1885) and Dermomurex (s.s.) nemethi (Kovács, 2018) . Dermomurex (s.s.) scalaroides (de Blainville, 1829) has been reported from the Badenian of the Paratethys Sea as well but at least all illustrated specimens belong to other species [e.g., Kojumdgieva in Kojumdgieva & Strachimirov (1960: pl. 40, fig. 7) = Dermomurex (Trialatella) jani ( Doderlein, 1862) ; Nikolov (1994: pl. 1, figs. 7–8) = Dermomurex (s.s.) distinctus ( De Cristofori & Jan, 1832) ; Kovács (2020: pl. 1, figs. 23–24: Dermomurex (Trialatella) jani ( Bellardi, 1873) ].
