Subfamily Rapaninae Gray, 1853 View in CoL
Genus Janssenia Landau, Harzhauser, İslamoğlu & C. M. Silva, 2013
Type species. Ricinula calcarata Grateloup, 1834 View in CoL ; original designation by Landau et al. (2013: 157). Early Miocene , France .
Discussion. Janssenia was established by Landau et al. (2013) within Ergalataxinae but was transferred to Rapaninae by Lozouet (2023) based on similarities in apertural features with Rapaninae genera such as Drupa Röding, 1798 . Similarly, Vermeij (1995: 123) discussed this group comprising Janssenia calcarata within Rapaninae . Herein we follow this view.
We place Janssenia echinulata (Pusch, 1837) and Janssenia spinosa (Kojumdgieva in Kojumdgieva & Strachimirov, 1960) in this genus, but note that both have a weak to subobsolete columellar fold. This feature, however, seems to be variable even within the type species and other species, such as Janssenia gratteloupi (d’Orbigny, 1852) , as documented by Lozouet (2023: pls. 36–37).
