Western Atlantic—USA (North Carolina, Florida), Bahamas, Gulf of Mexico, Panama, Antilles, and Brazil ( Amapá, Pará, Maranhão, Piauí, Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Sergipe, Bahia, Espírito Santo, São Paulo) ( Rathbun 1901; Powers 1977; Lemaitre 1981; Williams 1984; Abele & Kim 1986; Melo & Veloso 2005; Felder et al. 2009; Alves et al. 2012a).

Remarks. Previous records in São Paulo include Ilha Vitória ( Alves et al. 2012a).
