Material examined. None.
Distribution. Western Atlantic—USA (Massachusetts to Florida), Mexico (Gulf of Mexico), Belize, Panama, Venezuela, Antilles, and Brazil ( Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Sergipe, Bahia, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina) ( Abele & Kim 1986; Martins & D’Incao 1996; Melo 1996, 1998; Bezerra et al. 2006; Almeida & Coelho 2008; Palacios-Theil et al. 2009, 2016).
Remarks. Previous records on the coast of São Paulo include Ubatuba ( Negreiros-Fransozo et al. 2002). This species is found associated with bivalves Cassostrea, Anomia , Mytilus, Pecten , and in burrows of polychaetes ( Martins & D’Incao 1996; Melo 1998), being difficult to sample.
