Head, in lateral view, inclined at ≥ 45° from longitudinal axis of body ( Fig. 7F View FIGURE 7 ).Vertex trapezoidal, covered with distinct imbricate microsculpture ( Figs 11I, J View FIGURE 11 , 12A, C–E View FIGURE 12 ) (rugosely imbricate in M. acuminata sp. nov.; Fig. 12B View FIGURE 12 ) and microscopical setae. Thorax moderately or strongly arched, covered with microscopical setae; metapostnotum usually with distinct longitudinal keel (indistinct in M. caramambatai sp. nov.). Forewing ( Fig. 18C–I View FIGURE 18 ) uniformly coloured, with small brown dots; pterostigma distinctly expanding towards the middle or apical third, longer than 4.0 times as wide; vein R 1 weakly convex or straight medially. Comments. The group comprises seven species from Brazil and one species from Panama, viz. M. longitarsata (Brown & Hodkinson) . The Panamanian species differs from the other group members in the longer metatibia (MT/ MF> 1.7 versus ≤ 1.7). Five species develop on Melastomataceae ( Clidemia , Miconia ) and two on Annonaceae ( Guatteria , Xylopia ).
