Omaloplia Schönherr, 1817
status

Omaloplia Schönherr, 1817 View in CoL

[30 species and 3 additional subspecies].

The valid type species fixation is that of Thon (1832), who selected Scarabaeus brunneus Linnaeus, 1758 View in CoL , but that nominal species is currently the type species of the genus Serica MacLeay, 1819 View in CoL . An application to the Commission is necessary to fix Melolontha ruricola Fabricius, 1775 View in CoL as the type species of Omaloplia View in CoL to conserve current usage.

Note: Samouelle (1819) incorrectly spelt Omaloplia View in CoL as “ Amaloplia ” and Stephens (1830) incorrectly spelt Omaloplia View in CoL as “ Homaloplia View in CoL ”.

Brachyphylla Mulsant, 1842 (not Brachyphylla Gray, 1834).

Type species Melolontha ruricola Fabricius, 1775 View in CoL , by monotypy. Synonymy by Erichson (1848).

Omaloplia (Acarina) Baraud, 1965b View in CoL .

Type species Scarabaeus spireae Pallas, 1773 View in CoL , by original designation.
