Basionym: ≡ Cyclosorus clavatus K.H. Shing (1999: 350) .
Type:— CHINA, Guizhou, Wang-mo Xian, Sang-lang District , Du-yi County, 23 December 1991, P.S. Wang 222 (B) ( PE [ 00789734 ]!).
= Cyclosorus cuneatus Ching ex K.H. Shing (1999: 347) , nom. illeg.
Distribution:— China and Vietnam.
Note: Cyclosorus cuneatus Ching ex K.H. Shing is an illegitimate name due to the earlier publication of Cyclosorus cuneatus (C. Christensen 1913: 253) Ching (1941: 243) (baisonym: ≡ Dryopteris cuneata C.Chr. ). Currently, Cyclosorus cuneatus (C.Chr.) Ching is a well-placed synonym of Goniopteris cuneata (C.Chr.) Brade (1972: 215) ( Fawcett & Smith 2021). The type specimen of Cyclosorus cuneatus Ching ex K.H. Shing was labeled by Ren-Chang Ching as Cyclosorus cuneatus Ching ined. ( 30 Sep. 1957), which seems like an informal labeling. Without being aware of existing nomenclature, Shing utilized the Ching’s ditto labeled name and also dedicated it to him, which resulted in the publication of an illegitimate name in the Ching’s authority ( Shing 1999). Afterward, the name was also utilized in the Flora of China and other literature, probably believing in Ching as authority and not being aware of the Shing’s illegitimate nomenclature ( Lin et al. 2013, Li et al. 2013). In the same publication, Shing also described another species, Cyclosorus clavatus K.H. Shing which was later synonymized into Cyclosorus cuneatus Ching ex K.H. Shing in the Flora of China ( Lin et al. 2013). This taxon was found closely related to Christella calvescens ( Ching 1938: 225) Holttum (1976: 328) in general morphology, venation, and gland structure, but differs in having a sparsely glandular lamina and a long-creeping rhizome ( Li et al. 2013). Since the name Cyclosorus clavatus K.H. Shing is available, and has been utilized here to make a new combination ( Turland et al. 2018).
