10. Metoponiinae are small- to medium-sized noctuids (wingspan 15–40mm). Adults lack the foretibial claw, bear a raised nodular sclerite on the tympanic membrane, and usually display quadrifine hindwing venation. In the male genitalia, the uncus is long and narrow; the scaphium is membraneous; the tegumen is broad; the vinculum is rod like; the saccus V-shaped; and the vesica usually supports patches of enlarged cornuti. In the female genitalia, most species have a unisaccate bursa with prominent signa. It is a predominately Old world subfamily with about 100 species worldwide ( Fibiger et al. 2009, Keegan et al. 2021).
