Examined material. ECUADOR: Napo Province, Grand Selva Lodge , forest trail, 1.098032°S 77.544467°W, 500 m., 4 September 2024, Leg.: X. Mengual (1f#, deposited at INABIO, ZFMK-DIP-00085110). GenBank accession number: PV061140 GoogleMaps .

Remarks. The collected female clearly belongs to Atriadops due to the absence of ocelli on the head and the very short proboscis, more precisely to the species A. macula ( Wiedemann, 1824) with the body covered with long black hairs, yellow legs, and the wing strongly infuscate except for a pale yellow macula anterior to apex. Moreover, there is no other species of this genus that occurs in the Neotropical Region, and this female resembles the female illustrated by Rafael et al. (2020) and the images provided by Lopes (1936).

Genetic data. Bidirectional sequencing reported a sequence of 658 bp long. This is the first DNA barcode of A. macula and the second for Atriadops . The other publicly available COI sequence for this genus belongs to an unidentified specimen from Zambia (voucher USNMENT01371418; GenBank: MG967805 View Materials ). The % similarity is relatively low for two species of the same genus, 86.2%, and our new sequence shows a comparable percentage of similarity (86.1–86.5%) with other taxa from different families, such as Sphaeroceridae , Anthomyiidae , Psilidae , Lauxaniidae , or Psychodidae .
