Geographical distribution: Middle Europe and western Asia, from SW France ( Van Meer & Bouyon 2019) to Russia. Europe: Austria, Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Great Britain, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Switzerland and Ukraine; Asia: Kazakhstan, NE China, South Korea, western Siberia and Nearctic Region ( Iwan et al. 2020). Records from Denmark and Great Britain are erroneous, the species being not reported by Hansen (1996) and Barclay (2012) respectively. The ones of NE China, South Korea and Nearctic Region are due to confusions with Neatus ventralis and N. tenebrioides . In Italy, N. picipes only occurs in the NE of the country ( Aliquó et al. 2007) and in Poland, the species is not rare but mainly localized along large rivers ( Iwan et al. 2012).
