Acroptychia (?) culminans (Fischer-Piette, C. P. Blanc, F. Blanc & F. Salvat, 1993) View in CoL
Fig. 2C–D View FIGURE 2
Boucardicus culminans Fischer-Piette, C. P. Blanc, F. Blanc & F. Salvat, 1993: 63 View in CoL , fig. 46.
Material examined. Madagascar, chaines Anosyennes, N. de Fort-Dauphin, Dte Foret = arrés du Souvet, 1900 m.; MNHN-IM 2000-35177 ( holotype), MNHN-IM-2000-35178 ( 3 paratypes) .
Remarks. The holotype and paratypes of Boucardicus culminans lack microtunnels. We could see the exact position of the operculum indicated by a thickening, and we have seen no opening on the inner side of the thickening.
Emberton (2002: 49, pl. 3, fig. 12) and Emberton and Pearce (1999: 351, figs 9, 40, 52, 54, 62) figured specimens under this species, but the illustrated specimens probably do not belong to A. culminans , as they possess a prominent swelling anterior to the constriction and the shell colouration lacks spiral bands. Instead, they likely belong to a Boucardicus species (although I have only examined photos in that paper).
