Type species by monotypy: Scadra nigrorufa Stål, 1867 .
The taxonomic history of the genus was surveyed and a revised diagnosis was provided by Rédei & Tsai (2012).
Diversity and distribution. The genus is distributed in the East Palaearctic and neighbouring regions of Indomalaya (southern China, Indochina, Ryukyu Archipelago, Taiwan). Nineteen species, including the new species described below, are currently recognized (see Discussion), although due to taxonomic problems this number will probably be reduced.
