Ecology. Epigeic, synanthropic species known only from compost heaps and market gardens ( Graff 1954; Pieper 1969). Suitable for vermicomposting ( Csuzdi & Zicsi 2003).
Zoogeographical distribution type. Peregrine species that has been extensively introduced all over Europe ( Csuzdi & Zicsi 2003). Also recorded in California ( Sims & Gerard 1999).
Distribution in Germany. Central Germany ( Pieper 1969); northern Germany ( Graff 1954); southern Germany ( Brauckmann 2002); eastern Germany ( Wilcke 1939); between 2007 and 2013 in Berlin (S. Krück, unpublished data).
