Mutilla cordigera Sichel & Radoszkowski, 1869 –1870: 155, 202, ♀, holotype ♀ ( Chine [actually Cochin China = southern Vietnam]) [MNHN]; Dalla Torre 1897: 27, ♀; André 1902b: 29. Synonymized by André (1898: 31) under Mutilla urania Smith, 1857 . Resurrected to valid species status by André (1902b: 29).

Identification source. Keyed using Mickel (1933c) and compared with the original description.

Previous record. This species was described from southern Vietnam by Sichel & Radoszkowski (1869), but additional locality data were unavailable. Later, Lelej (2005) recorded this species from the northern part without reference to voucher specimens.

Distribution. Laos. Thailand. Vietnam: Vinh Phuc *, Ninh Binh *, Gia Lai *, Dong Nai *. This species was also recorded from Indonesia (Java, Sumatra; André 1902b: 29) and Malaysia (Perak; André 1902b: 29; Zavattari 1914: 64), but these records were based on misidentification ( Mickel 1933c).

Occurrence in Vietnam. April, July, August, October. South China-Vietnam subtropical evergreen forests, Northern Vietnam lowland rain forests, Southern Annamites montane rain forests, Southern Vietnam lowland dry forests, and Southeast Indochina dry evergreen ecoregions. 200–840 m alt. Dipterocarp forest, tropical forest, pine forest.

Sex association. Male unknown.

Remarks. This species is similar to Odontomutilla uranoides below, but has a wider mesal spot of golden setae on the second metasomal tergum.
