Hemichromis fasciatus (Peters) View in CoL ;
Banded jewelfish
Remarks: Hemichromis fasciatus , synonymized with Hemichromis desguezii (Rochebrune) and Hemichromis leiguardii (de Brito Capello) , was a common catch across all sampling locations in NLL. This species is widely distributed throughout West Africa, ranging from the Senegal basin to the Chad basin, including West African coastal rivers and the middle and lower regions of the Chad basin. Hemichromis fasciatus has a deep body with a narrow head and is marked by five distinct vertical bands along its flanks. The first band merges with an opercular spot, while the last band is located at the base of the caudal fin.
