Natural History: Knull (1951) reported that this species has been collected from pine ( Pinus ) and southern (=bald)
cypress ( Taxodium distichum ) infested with scolytines and other borers and is abundant on pine foliage in southern
OH in June. It has also been seen attacking a species of the scolytine genus Ips in South Carolina ( King & Fox 1970). Dorshorst & Young (2008) reported collections from black hills spruce ( Picea glauca ), jack pine ( Pinus banksiana ), white pine ( Pinus strobus ) slash, northern pin oak ( Quercus ellipsoidalis ), and beating sumac ( Rhus ). They reported that it was most frequently collected with Lindgren funnel traps in red pine plantations sites with jack pine and oak and that Malaise and black light traps also recovered specimens in Wisconsin.
Chemical lures: Alpha-pinene ( Chenier & Philogene 1989); Ethanol (Williams & Ginzel 2020); racemic ipsdienol ( Miller 1997). King & Fox (1970) reported collecting it with “ Ips -baited traps” but did not specify the chemical nature of the lure nor the specific type of trap. Dosrhorst and Young (2008) also reported success using ipsdienol. Erbilgin et al. (2003) collected 12 individuals in Lindgren funnel traps baited with various ratios of alpha-pinene to racemic ipsdienol + lanierone,
