Kentucky counties (Map 19): Franklin (1), Jefferson (1), Johnson (1), Letcher (2), Mercer (1), Owen (4), Pendleton (1), Scott (1). Kentucky specimens were collected in the eastern half of the state ( Interior Plateau and Central Appalachians ecoregions).

Years: 1893 (1), 1951 (1), 1966 (1), 2000 (1), 2001 (1), 2003 (1), 2007 (1), 2009 (3), 2014 (1), 2015 (1)

Months: May (4), June (6), July (1), August (1)

Collections (12): BugGuide (2), CEWC (4), JMLC (3), UKIC (3)

Collection methods: Malaise trap (3), sweeping (3)

Natural History: Baker (1895) reported that one specimen had apparently emerged from galls of the tenthredinid Euura salicisnodus Walsh in willow ( Salix ). Sabrosky (1934) reported that an adult had emerged from a goldenrod ( Solidago ) gall of the solidago gallmoth ( Gnorimoschema gallaesolidaginis Riley ; Gelechiidae ) in Kansas. When the gall was examined, Sabrosky (1934) found the chewed exit hole of the beetle and the beetle exuvium inside the gallmoth pupal cell suggesting that the larva had fed upon the moth pupa as a predator. It has also been associated with hickory ( Carya ) and witch hazel ( Hamamelis ), presumably as a predator of woodboring larvae ( Sabrosky 1934). Dorshorst & Young (2008) reported that two specimens were beaten from branches of honey locust ( Gleditsia triacanthos ) in Wisconsin and that specimens were also collected by Malaise traps and sweeping in drier prairies. Price (2014) reared one specimen from a gall of the Canada thistle stem gall fly ( Urophora cardui (L.)). Label data above include collections from a leaf of smooth sumac ( Rhus glabra ) in Kentucky and by sweeping (1) boxelder maple ( Acer negundo ) in Kentucky and (2) an Oklahoma prairie that had burned a couple months prior to collection.

Comments: Past literature records and museum identifications of Isohydnocera curtipennis (Newman) should be considered N. longicollis (Ziegler) ( Leavengood 2025) . It is important to note, however, that these are not synonyms. This complicated nomenclatural problem is detailed in Leavengood (2025).
