Kentucky counties (Map 20): Allen (1), Bourbon (2), Bullitt (1), Christian (1), Franklin (1), Hopkins (1), Owen (1), nr (3). Kentucky specimens were collected in scattered localities in the Interior Plateau and Interior River Valleys and Hills ecoregions.

Years: 1965 (1), 1972 (1), 1997 (2), 2001 (1), 2009 (1), 2010 (1), 2011 (1), nr (3)

Months: May (1), June (7), nr (3)

Collections (11): CEWC (3), JMLC (1), MCZ (3), UKIC (4)

Collection methods: Malaise trap (1), sweeping (4)

Natural History: Knull (1951) reported it from plant stems infested with tumbling flower beetle larvae ( Mordellidae ). An adult was collected on common milkweed( Asclepias syriaca )in Ohio(Dailey et al.1978).It has been collected from black locust ( Robinia pseudoacacia ) and walnut ( Juglans ) in Wisconsin, where Malaise traps and sweeping in highly fragmented habitats yielded the most specimens ( Dorshorst & Young 2008). Wilhelm et al. (2012) reported collecting several adults from leadplant ( Amorpha canescens ) in Iowa. Swenson et al. (2022) found many (> 50 specimens) larvae, pupae and adults in galls of the Canada thistle stem gall fly ( Urophora cardui (L.)) in North Dakota, including pupae inside of a U. cardui puparia. However, Swenson et al.’s (2022) figures indicate that they may have had both N. longicollis and N. tabida specimens among their observations (while only referring to tabida in the paper). Adults have been collected at lights, with Malaise traps and by sweeping. Label data above include a specimen collected by sweeping marsh grass in Georgia and a series of five specimens collected from Sassafras in North Carolina.

Comments: Isohydnocera liebecki Wolcott, 1928 was designated as a junior synonym under Neohydnocera tabida ( Leavengood 2025) .
