Distribution: CO to IL to WI to SD.

- Recorded from: CO, IA, IL, KS, MO, NE, SD, and WI ( Townsend 1895; Wolcott 1947; Barr 1975; Dorshorst & Young 2008).

- New State Records: KANSAS: Shawnee County: Topeka (NMNH, 1); Pottawatomie County: Onaga (NMNH, 1). SOUTH DAKOTA: Yankton County: Lewis & Clark Lake, 21-25-VIII-1967, M. Prokop (FMNH, 1). Records from Arizona ( Wolcott 1947; Papp 1960) are probably misidentifications of Neohydnocera species.

Natural History: This species is part of the prairie fauna of the central U.S ( Mawdsley 2002b).

Dorshorst & Young (2008) collected it predominantly by sweeping dry to dry-mesic prairie habitats in Wisconsin. Nothing has been published on the life history of this species.

Comments: Formerly assigned to the genus Isohydnocera (see Leavengood 2025).
