Natural History: This rarely collected species has been collected on pine foliage in Ohio ( Knull 1951). Yearian &

Warren (1964) reported collections from loblolly ( Pinus taeda ) and shortleaf pine ( P. echinata ) cones and conelets infested with the scolytine Pityophthorus pulicarius (Zimmerman) , on which this species (as P. singularis ; see comment below) is predaceous. Eikenbary & Fox (1968) found P. subaeneus larvae (as P. singularis ) with larvae and un-emerged pupae of the Nantucket pine tip moth ( Rhyacionia frustrana (Comstock)) . This association is supported by the label data above for Georgia specimens that emerged from shortleaf ( Pinus echinata ) and loblolly

( P. taeda ) pines with Nantucket pine tip moth infestations.

Comments: Phyllobaenus singularis (Wolcott) was designated as a junior synonym of P. subaeneus ( Barr 2018) .
