The specific name is the Spanish form of the word scimitar, a type of sword used by several eastern peoples, especially by Muslim warriors, alluding to the shape of the RTA.</p><p>Diagnosis. Males of Syspira cimitarra are easily distinguished from other Dominican species by the shape of the retrolateral tibial apophysis elongated and curved at tip, and by the filiform apical projection of the embolar base (Figs 1A −B, 2B −F). Females resemble those of Syspira jimmyi sp.nov. by the enlarged atrium, but can be distinguished by the larger epigynal plate with moderately projected anterior margins of posterior plates, and longer copulatory ducts (Figs 1C −D, 2I).</p><p>Description. Male (Holotype). Coloration: carapace orange with two dark grey paramedian bands, spanning from anterior border to posterior border of carapace. Chelicerae red brown with median frontal black narrow stripe. Labium, endites, sternum and venter of coxae yellowish. Legs orange with metatarsus and tarsus dark orange. Abdomen gray with two longitudinal dorsal rows of white spots. Total length 9.3, carapace length 4.2, width 3.3. Eye diameters: AME 0.16, ALE 0.16, PME 0.21, PLE 0.21. Chelicerae 1.6 long, with 3 promarginal and 2 retromarginal teeth (Fig. 2A). Leg measurements: femur I—3.8; II—3.7; III—3.5; IV—4.5. Coloration as in male, except labium, endites and sternum orange. Palp orange. Abdomen and spinnerets ventrally orange. Total length 11.5, carapace length 5.6, width 4.3. Eye diameters: AME 0.19, ALE 0.19, PME 0.20, PLE 0.22. Chelicerae 2.3 long, with teeth as in male (Fig. 2G). Leg measurements: femur I—4.1; II—4; III—3.7; IV—4.9. Palp: claw with two teeth (Fig. 2H); spination: patella p1; tibia p2-1-0, d1-1-0; tarsus p1-0-0, r1-1-0, d1-0-0. The specific name is a tribute to the Colombian arachnologist Jimmy Cabra, who assisted in collecting the specimens for this work.</p><p>Diagnosis. Males of Syspira jimmyi are easily distinguished from other Dominican species by the dagger shape of the retrolateral tibial apophysis and by the enlarged distal area of the median apophysis (Figs 3A −B, 4B −D). Females resemble those of Syspira cimitarra by the enlarged atrium, but can be distinguished by the straighter epigynal plate, with strongly projected anterior margins of posterior plates and shorter copulatory ducts (Fig. 3C −D, compared with 1C −D, 2I).</p><p>Description. Male (Holotype). Coloration: carapace orange with two dark grey paramedian bands, from anterior border to posterior border of carapace. Chelicerae orange. Labium, endites, sternum and legs yellowish. Abdomen gray with three longitudinal dorsal anterior bands, and four rows of white spots on posterior ventral third. Spinnerets white. Total length 9.5, carapace length 4.5, width 3.6. Eye diameters: AME 0.17, ALE 0.22, PME 0.25, PLE 0.22. Chelicerae 1.7 long, with 3 promarginal and 2 retromarginal teeth (Fig. 4A). Leg measurements: femur I—4.5; II—4.6; III—4.3; IV—5.5. Cabra (IBSP 168417; for SEM).</p><p>Etymology. The specific name alludes to the half-moon shape (media luna in Spanish) of the retrolateral cymbial groove in the male palp. Media Luna is also a delicacy typical from Argentina, especially from Buenos Aires, which are very appreciated by the authors.</p><p>Diagnosis. Males of Syspira medialuna are easily distinguished from other Dominican species by the short, truncated tip of the retrolateral tibial apophysis and by the relatively small median apophysis (Figs 5A‒B). Females are distinguished from other Dominican species by the epigynal plate projected medially, with rounded anterior borders (Figs 5C, 6E).</p><p>Description. Male (Holotype). Coloration as in Syspira cimitarra . Total length 10.2, carapace length 4.9, width 3.8. Eye diameters: AME 0.21, ALE 0.24, PME 0.23, PLE 0.22. Chelicerae 1.6 long, with 3 promarginal and 2 retromarginal teeth (Fig. 6A). Leg measurements: femur I—4.5; II—4.3; III—3.9; IV—5.1. Eye diameters: AME 0.21, ALE 0.21, PME 0.25, PLE 0.24. Chelicerae 2.3 long, with teeth as in male (Fig. 6B). Leg measurements: femur I—3.9; II—3.8; III—3.4; IV—4.5.
