Forewing length 13.8 mm, hindwing length 12.1 mm.Tergum 7 with sparse sensilla basiconica on posterior margin, tergum 8 with two patches of sensilla basiconica (Figs. 1C–D). Hemitergal lobes of tergum 10 finger-like, strongly curved laterally, reaching posterior margin of tergum 9, apex obtuse covered with small sensilla basiconica (Figs. 1C–D). Sternum 6 with a patch of strong setae medially (Fig. 1B). Aedeagus weakly sclerotized, curved ventrally, subapical shrinked, apex expanded, L-shaped and with sparse fine spinules (Fig. 2A). Aedeagus with a brown sclerite subapically in ventral view, apex elliptical with complete ring of larger spines (Figs. 2B–C).

Female. Unknown.

Type material. Holotype: male (CAUC), China: Yunnan Province, Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Luchun County, Huanglian Mountains, Xiaoheijiang, N 22.7242°, E 102.3284°, 2018.I.29, Xingyue Liu leg., light trap.

Etymology. The species is named after Dr. Chen-Fu Wu in memory of his contribution to stonefly research in China.

Distribution. The species was collected at light in the regions of the Huanglian Mountains, Yunnan Province, China.

Remarks. The male of the new species is characterized by an L-shaped aedeagus and a brown sclerite on the ventral surface of the aedeagal sac. It is most similar to E. yunnanensis from Mengla County, Yunnan Province, in sharing a similar head pattern, leg pattern and external terminalia. In E. yunnanensis, the head has a triangular stigma which is dark from the pale M-line to the ocelli and the aedeagal tube is straight and lacks a ventral sclerite on aedeagal sac (see figs. 2a, 5 in Chen, 2020). The hexagonal stigma on the head of E. wui is larger than in E. yunnanensis. Though E. hochii shares a similar head pattern with E. wui, it lacks the sensilla basiconica on tergum 7 of E. wui.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/03CF3510106BFF940AD1FC94FE96F8A1	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. Sternum 6 with a median patch of strong setae (Fig. 3C). Aedeagus membranous and tube-like, curved ventrally, with few spinules; subapex cylindrical, apex heart-shaped with irregular fine spines (Figs. 3D–E).

Material examined. The species is only known from Hainan Island, China.

Remarks. Our specimen from Yinggeling National Nature Reserve, Hainan Island, clearly agrees well with the original description (see figs. 310–311 in Wu, 1938) and the March collection of the holotype. In the studied specimens, patches of sensilla basiconica on tergum 7 were separated while the patch was undivided in the holotype (see figs. 310–311 in Wu, 1938) which is thought to be intraspecific variation. Given the close match with the original description and the loss of the holotype specimen, we designate a neotype to solidify the concept of the species. This species is similar to E. yunnanensis and E. wui, which was mentioned above. We provide color figures of adult male of the neotype to help identify this species. The neotype’s entire mitochondrial genome was sequenced in 2019 and its Genbank accession number is MK905888 (Liu et al. 2019).

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/03CF35101068FF900AD1F9F9FC6FFDBF	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
